In Matthew's telling of the story, Jesus explains that there's more to following the commandments than "Thou shalt not..." There's more to "Thou shalt not murder" than just not taking someone's physical life. Following the commandments means choosing God's ways, filling the "not" with life and beauty, and living in community. Following the commandments means belonging.
