This story is all about new life, about being "born anew... of imperishable seed, through the... enduring word of God." When we plant a garden, we spend a lot of energy to keep the weeds and predators out and to nurture the plants we want, according to what each one needs. This is true in our growth in faith as well. Our faith and hope are set on God, we trust in God, we live in obedience to the truth, with genuine mutual love (read it). This is the fertilizer mix for a beautiful garden. We can keep other things out. Oh yeah, remember the seed has to die before it can grow into a plant.
