Contrast this story with Nicodemus: the man comes at night, the woman comes at midday. Why? Nicodemus comes with a statement and ends with questions, the woman comes with questions and ends by sharing what she learns with her community. Both spend time with Jesus. Both affect Jesus' actions. Jesus affects both.
