Turns out politics in Jesus' time were just about as mixed up as ours today. A lot of people were dissatisfied with the choices they had and everyone thought they could solve the problems of society by using different means. Some advocated violence - storming the castle. Some thought they needed to make everybody follow the law. Some just tried to keep the peace at all costs. There were those who took advantage of the dissatisfaction to get rich. Some people just withdrew from everything and went on retreat. But we have to believe that God has a different way in mind, one in which people are treated as people and God is God, and the mission of feeding and community continues.
